Inspired by Leonardo of Pisa’s Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical pattern where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones. This sequence can be found throughout nature, forming spirals present in the Milky Way, fossils, plants, and the human body. Clulow used this spiral as a model for this piece, incorporating figures within the spiral surrounding a profile, aiming to blend humanity and nature. The subjects in this print are heavily inspired by a family heirloom, a gold pin with a woman’s profile in its centre. The intention was to incorporate a personal element of the artists heritage and background within this work, and showcase that one is always the sum of their predecessors.
